Brake Inspection and Repair for Your Acura

Have your brakes been issuing strange sounds or vibrations? Have you sensed a weakening in stopping power? If you suspect a worn-out brake pad or rotor, have it replaced at your local Acura dealership before it stops performing properly. Here are the most common symptoms that a car is in need of brake repair, plus guidance on how frequently you should have your brakes inspected. more Common Brake Repair Symptoms The brake pads are squeezed against the rotors whenever you slow or stop your car. This generates enormous friction and also steadily wears down each brake pad. Once a pad is on its last legs, it's designed to emit a high-pitched squealing sound, indicating it's time for a replacement. When rotors are damaged or worn out, you'll probably feel vibrations through the brake pedal whenever you use it. Odd sounds should also never be ignored. Grinding or clattering noises might indicate caliper problems or a severely worn-out brake pad that needs to be replaced at once. Urgent Warning Signs of Brake Trouble If you ever press the brake pedal and your car fails to slow down as rapidly as usual, pull over safely to inspect your brakes. Diminished brake force is hazardous and you shouldn't drive again until the fault is resolved. Your brakes might be overheating, which can occur as a result of prolonged usage in heavy traffic. Overheating occasionally leads to brake fade, where melting brake pad resin releases a small amount of gas, preventing full friction against the rotor. Weakened brakes might also point to leaking brake fluid. The brake fluid maintains hydraulic pressure inside the brake lines, carrying the stopping signal to the calipers. If your brake fluid is leaking, the brakes will probably feel spongy as well as weaker. Check under your car and in the wheel wells for puddles of oily yellow or brown fluid. Book Biannual Brake Inspections at Your Acura Dealership As brake problems tend to develop gradually over time, you can usually catch them early on with frequent brake inspections. It's wise to have your brakes examined by a professional at least twice a year. A full inspection involves the brake fluid and lines being checked under the hood and also under the car. Your vehicle will be raised so our technicians can remove the wheels, calipers, rotors, and pads, examining each component for excessive wear and tear. This way, we can also let you know how much longer each part will last and you're less likely to be surprised on the road. Visit Ed Martin Acura in Indianapolis, IN, for a brake inspection and repair today. We're an award-winning local dealership that's been helping out the drivers of our local community for decades.

Maximize Efficiency: Acura Oxygen Sensor Replacement Services

Some of the most important sensors in your Acura are the oxygen sensors. As their name suggests, these sensors monitor the oxygen level in your engine. This is essential, as oxygen must mix with fuel in a precise ratio to power combustion. Sensors can wear out or become damaged, with serious consequences for your engine. As your Acura dealership, we'd like you to know a few signs you need to visit us for oxygen sensor replacement. more Signs You Need an Oxygen Sensor Replacement at Your Acura Dealership Reduced Fuel Economy Combustion requires far more fuel than air, as fuel can't burn successfully without enough oxygen. Air enters the engine through the engine air filter and mixes with fuel in the intake manifold. The oxygen sensors monitor the air level and inform your computer so it can ensure the correct amount of fuel is added to the mixture. A worn or damaged sensor won't supply the right information, forcing your computer to guess the amount of fuel to add. If the computer guesses wrong, your engine could receive more fuel than air. Excessive fuel turns your engine fuel-rich. The lack of air prevents most of the fuel from burning, and it's dumped out the exhaust. Once we replace the sensor, the fuel-air mixture will return to normal. Black Exhaust Smoke As we saw above, low oxygen levels prevent most of the fuel from burning. The hot fuel is dumped into the exhaust system and travels to the catalytic converter. The converter converts dangerous, toxic engine gases into harmless ones. The converter uses extreme heat during the conversion process, and the hot fuel can raise its internal temperature too high and damage it. The unburnt fuel passes out the tailpipe, usually accompanied by hisses, pops, and occasional small flames when the fuel touches the hot metal. The accompanying black cloud has a strong fuel smell and is also toxic. If you live in Lake or Porter counties, this smoke will cause your Acura to fail its smog check. Your exhaust smoke will turn thin and whispy again once a new sensor is installed. Check Engine Light The check engine light comes on when engine sensors detect a problem that affects engine performance. Sensors are attached to all essential engine components to monitor them and ensure they're working correctly. If the oxygen mixture in your engine is wrong, the spark plugs won't ignite the mixture successfully, causing a misfire or even stalling your vehicle. In addition, a fuel-rich atmosphere coats the plugs and ignition coils in sticky carbon, further reducing their performance. All these issues reduce performance, and this will cause the check engine light to illuminate. Sensors are quick and relatively inexpensive to replace. An engine diagnostic being performed at a service center near Indianapolis, Indiana

3 Benefits of Getting Engine Diagnostics From Your Dealer

Engine diagnostics is a powerful tool our technicians use to identify issues that affect your Acura. Diagnostics is usually used if a warning light illuminates your dash, as we can trace the issue and repair it before it develops into a larger problem. It can also be used proactively to improve vehicle performance. As your Acura dealer, we want to tell you more about other benefits of diagnostics. more You Save Money Repairs can be costly, especially things like rebuilding an engine or transmission. In almost every case, these major, time-consuming, and expensive situations can be prevented by identifying an issue when it first starts. A minor issue, like a dirty engine air filter, takes a few minutes to replace and is very cheap. If it's not replaced, your engine will eventually suffer major damage to its pistons, cylinders, and other components. Your engine contains numerous sensors, which supply information to your Acura computer on the status of their connected component. The sensors can identify minute changes, like a reduction of air to the engine as the filter becomes blocked. In this case, a diagnostic would identify the issue, and we can replace it while you wait comfortably. You Improve Performance Minor issues can develop in an engine over time. They're not serious enough to trigger a warning light, as the affected component is still working. These issues will still decrease engine performance, leading to slightly increased wear and tear on components and increased fuel usage. The issues are still identified by the sensors and reported to the computer, which logs them with error codes. These issues include a partial blockage in the fuel filter, a less than 14:1 air-to-fuel ratio in the engine, and less-than-perfect ignition and valve timings. None of these issues are immediately noticeable, but identifying and correcting them will give your Acuras engine a performance boost. A diagnostic test will easily identify these issues, and we can repair them. You Save Time There never seems to be enough time to do everything, and for most things, you need your car. Auto repairs, before the 1980s and the rise of car computers, sensors, and diagnostic systems, took longer. A mechanic had to individually check and test components until the exact fault was discovered. Nowadays, you save time by bringing your Acura to our service department for a diagnostic. We can identify issues through a diagnostic test and often fix them while you wait. This reduces time without your car and also reduces repair costs. If you'd like to know more about diagnostics or to book a test, contact our service department today at Ed Martin Acura in Indianapolis, IN.
