5 of the Weirdest Attractions in IndianapolisWhen most people think of attractions, they conjure up images of theme parks, fairs, and water parks. However, there are some other types of attractions that can provide lots of entertainment and fascination for those who choose to attend. Here is a list of several of the weirdest attractions in Indianapolis. These attractions are not the run-of-the-mill attractions that you can find in every other city in the United States. Rather, these attractions stand out as truly one of a kind for the area. 

Indiana Medical History Museum 

There is no doubt about it. The practice of medicine has evolved a lot over the past 100 years. Medicine in the late 19th and early 20th centuries was fascinating. You can learn more about historic medicine and its progress by visiting a medical museum. The Indiana Medical History Museum is located at 3045 Vermont Street. You can see the historic autopsy room, laboratory, and medical school amphitheater. You should schedule a tour to see all that the museum has to offer. 

The Ruins 

The Ruins is located in Holliday Park at 6363 Spring Hill Road. It consists of sculptures that formerly were a part of the St. Paul Building in New York City before it was relocated to the park. New features have been added to the remains of the building. Now the art is known as The Races of Man. It is certainly an interesting and beautiful piece of work to see in person. 

Market Street Catacombs 

Underneath parts of Indianapolis, there are historic catacombs, tunnels that connect different parts of the city. There are cafes and delis operating throughout the Market Street Catacombs, located in the City Market. It used to be used as a cool place to store food for the market and to transport items, including meat. Today, you can take a tour to learn more about Indianapolis’s unique history. 

John Dillinger’s Grave 

John Dillinger is one of the most notorious gangsters in the Great Depression era. He led the Terror Gang and robbed dozens of banks. Ironically, there were concerns about people trying to rob his grave in Indianapolis so it is buried under iron and concrete. You can visit John Dillinger’s Grave at 700 W 38th Street.  

Indianapolis Moon Tree 

Fascinated by space? Come see a tree grown from a seed taken to the moon. Located at 200 West Washington Street, Indianapolis Moon Tree is a 30-year-old sycamore tree that traveled into outer space on the Apollo 14 lunar mission. There is a plaque that commemorates the fascinating history of the tree. There are very few moon trees left standing today, so it is truly a sight to see.
