Failing Alternator
Your alternator is the most important part of the electrical system. It's the component that generates the electricity that all the other systems require. Alternators have a long life of approximately eight years before they need replacement. When an alternator ages, it will gradually produce less electricity due to its worn components.
Your Acura's electrical systems have a relatively consistent power demand, and this becomes a problem when the alternator starts to fail. The decline in available power forces your car's computer to shift power from component to component when demand is greatest. The sifting power will give rise to problems like dim lights, slow accessories, and slow battery recharging. We'll test your alternator and install a new one if it's failing.
Worn Battery
The battery's chief responsibility is to supply the power to start your engine. In contrast to the alternator, a battery has a much lower working life. The average lifespan of a battery is three to five years before it needs replacement. The lower lifespan is due to the breakdown of the chemicals inside the battery that enable it to store electricity as chemical energy.
A worn battery will usually always show signs that it's failing. Depending on its condition, these signs can vary from dim interior lights to a foul smell from the engine compartment to difficulty starting the engine. These signs do, however, give a warning that it's failing. If you experience any of these symptoms, we can test your battery for you. If the battery fails the test, we can quickly install a new one to fix the problem.
Damaged Wiring
​A vast network of wiring is responsible for transmitting electricity from your alternator to ​every electrical system and device. This wiring is protected against heat and damage by thick insulation. ​Unfortunately, even the high-grade wiring in your Acura is delicate. Over time, the constant transmission of electricity ​causes wear and tear to the wiring and it can break.
Broken wiring will shut down one or more of your electrical systems, as electricity can't travel through damaged wiring. ​If one of ​your car's systems fails ​suddenly, this could be due to a broken wire. Our technicians will trace the wiring and replace any damaged sections they find.
