What is the difference between front- and rear-wheel drive?

When you are looking for a car or truck to buy to drive around in Indianapolis, you can get a two-wheel-drive vehicle or a four-wheel-drive vehicle. If you have a two-wheel-drive vehicle, it will either be rear- or front-wheel drive.

The difference between front- and rear-wheel drive is pretty self explanatory. With front-wheel drive, it's the front wheels that actually turn and pull the car. With rear-wheel drive, the back two wheels are the ones that move, and they push the vehicle from the rear. Front-wheel drive is common on newer vehicles and is standard in cars. Rear-wheel drive is more common on older vehicles and also may be more standard on newer trucks and SUVs.

If you are wondering if your vehicle has rear- or front-wheel drive or if you need service, bring your car or truck into Ed Martin Acura, and let our friendly, professional staff help you.
