What is a tire rotation?

Your tire tread is what keeps you safe by controlling, slowing, and stopping your car. With regular use, the tread on your front tires will wear quicker than your back tires because they absorb the additional friction as you turn. With a tire rotation, we take a look at the wear on each of your tires and swap them around on the vehicle accordingly, which redistributes the pressure and workload your tires are going through when you drive. This makes sure your tires are being used and worn equally, which in turn helps them to last longer before needing replacements.

How often do I need a tire rotation?

How often you need a tire rotation will depend on the brand of tires you have, your vehicle’s steering system, driving patterns, and road conditions in your area. Typically though, you’ll need a tire rotation each 5,000-7,500 miles. Check your owner’s manual for more information on your vehicle’s specific needs, or if you'd like, stop by for a visit and we can take a look at the condition of your tires for you.

What is a tire balancing?

Road bumps, potholes, wear on your tires, and other hazardous road conditions can throw off the balance of your tires. Tire balancing eliminates uneven points of your tires to help provide a smooth and comfortable ride. During a tire balancing we take a look at each tire individually, measuing vibrations to determine if the tire's weight is spread evenly across the wheel. If it isn't, our service techs can add weight to the tire where needed to ensure a balanced ride and minimal wear during trips.

When do I need tire balancing?

Tire balancing isn’t a routine service and you should only get your tires balanced as needed. That being said, the best time to get your tires balanced is during a routine tire rotation while the tires are already off of the vehicle. If you notice that your vehicle or steering wheel shakes and vibrates as you drive, it's a good indicator that it might be time to bring your car in to have your tires balanced. Normally, you’ll notice this when driving at higher speeds. If you’re not sure if you need tire balancing, stop by Ed Martin Acura and we can check yours out.
